Our second shooting in Birmingham!
Unfortunately we couldnt shoot the second time in birmingham due to a few problems. This idea isnt going very well so we are considering changing the idea slightly where we will be able to have easier access to places. We will now have to start thinking about a second idea, but this time something more simple.

Plans for the 2nd attempt of shooting in Birmingham!
We are going to go back to birmingham to try and reshoot the footage. This time we are hoping to play around more with the lighting and the close up shots. I think we need to add in more of these as it would give our identity and image away to our audienc within the video. We are hoping to stick to the same plan as last time. So we will shoot the dance routine all in one outfit first with different lighting. This will be with the three different cameras all in different angles. nd then after we will change the lighting and the clothing and then repeat this with teh cameras at different angles. For all the boys bits, we wil do them sepeeratly after as the shots are quite different to each other.

Our first shoot in Birmingham!
We finally got a chance to go to birmingham and shoot our music video for the first time. Unfortunatley, it didnt go as planned! the venue that we had booked was very big, there was alot of space and the lighting was great. We also managed to get a backdrop which was black with small white lights on them which were representing stars. this looked very nice and because of lights that we could play around with, we decided on what colour lighting we can have on certain shots and shoots. The plan was to shoot the dance routine that we had coreographed in three diff ourfits using the two cameras to get different angles. And then the extra shots, like close ups and the special ones which needed more time on, we were going to shoot seperate afterwards.
So we began with our first outfit which was an indian outfit, and as we both wore the same things, it all looked very good. after shooting once when we checked the footage, it didnt look too good. The camera was going very blury and because the venue was lit up alot, the bluryness showed up alot! we tried this a few more times but it wouldn't change so unfortunately we had to stop the shoot as it would have been a waste of time.

Designing the digipak
For our digipack I would like to create something simple but elegant. I dont realy want to produce something too bold and funky which is bursting out with bright colours, but something that is still eye catching and something that has a good colour scheme which is used very thoughtfuly and not outragously. So if i chose to go for black, pink and gold, i would use something like black for a background or perhaps a light image and then use gold for the text and pink for a design, outlining pictures accompanied by a little gold.
Looking at layout, i dont realy want to add to many images and too much text onto it. Id rather just keep it limited and just have one or two images with small text on the side or at the bottom so it doesnt look too croweded.
These are some designs that I quite like.
I like this one alot as its very simple. Its quite urban with the graffitti style font and the clothes that the he is wearing are very casual and streetwise. The design and the layout is very nice on this but its not the look im am going to go for on my own digipack design.

What are we planning to wear for our shoot..?
For the video we have planned to wear glamourous indian outfits which will varey throughout the video. We are hoping to change the style abit during the video so we will shoot some shots in one outfit and then switch to other outfits. This could be a difference in colour and style. So in some shots we maybe wearin something very elegant and classy whereas in others they may not be all that glamourous and slightly more casual, but stil bright and traditional. As we are both from different parts of india, the style and type of indian dress changes. therefore, we will probably wear a gujrati dress in one and a punjabi dress in another. We were thinking of having a few shots where we are dressed in western clothes. I think this will give it a slightly 'british-asian' feel to it which would be quite good as we have a wide range of audience in the UK.
The Saqi Roadshow setup!!!
For the shoot we are hoping to be using some elegant setups and backdrops. We will need something glamourous and sleek that will go with the type of song that we have chosen. in the original song the hall is setup with different tones of green lighting and sparkles. Its a very high classed party thats going on so the videos already been given that fancy and classic feel to it but using something similar or something thats still abit stylish would bring a nice finsih to out video.

Dance rehearsals
here we have been working together trying to come up with a good dance to fit in with our song. Wev been trhough some existing bollywood dances to pick up simple, but elegant steps. i think wehave been working quite well on this so far. we jus need to get our coordination up to the best we can. We have also tried to play around with differents effects on imovie to get a rough idea of what we can add to this to make it look even better.

Videos that attract me!
I like some parts in this video but not all. I like the use of close up shots as i think they are very important to have in the video as it gives alot away about the artist. and this is important to show the artist in the video i think. LIke in this video, Angrez Ali, the actualy vocalist is shown alot throught close up shots and wide shots either on his own or with a few other people around him. I also like the dancers he has got. I think where bhangra is a very live and energentic, including bhnagra dnacers in videos adds more excitment and makes it more enjoyable. In this video what i also liked about it was the glimpses of the instruments that were shown to us. It shows us what the song is made up from and i think this is quite a priority.

New ideas for the video!
As we are creating our own video, i have been looking out for videos on tele that catch my eye. I'v been trying to look at the type of shots they include, angles, editing effects and obvously the style and what makes them different. While doing this i saw a video that was out early this year that i realy liked. I liked the way the background has been created by using the green screen. i think by using this you can get a variety of feels from it. you could add in a urban cityscape background which would make it look quite modern and attractive for a younger generation or you could even add in animations, changing colours for children or a party style with lots of lights and flashing. So i think it would be a good effect to use in our video as we need to make it more attractive for other cultures not just asians. This is the video called 'Balle Shava' by a group called 'Tigerstyle'.
This video By an artist called Imran Khan called Ni nachle means 'lets dance'. Overall i like this song but what caught my eye about this video was the camera work. I realy the the way the camera suddenly zooms in and out to the beat of the song. I think it gives the video more enthusiasm and groove as it focuses alot on close ups and their dance that is going on in the video. The editing is very fast paced aswel and i think the way the camera sweeps from one person to another adds that extra little speed to the video and makes it look more enrgetic. It also makes you move to the beat of the song and dance to it i think.

Storyboarding!
We have finally started storyboarding!! we have got in our first few shots which are of the main singer sitting in the middle of a party hall singing with the lights all dimmed down. Eventualy the lights will brighten up whils the first girl walks in from the side and the second girl comes in from the other side. This will be like the intro of the song and then once it starts getting into the song, the dancing will begin. This will obviously start to include more variety of shots, lighting and dance moves, which will hopefulyy lift up the video alot more. These are the first few pictures of our story board.

Change of song!!!
We have decided to change the song that we are going to be doing for our music video. we had originally decided to do 'Mauja mauja' from a bollywood film called 'jab we met'. But after listning to some more songs we have decided to go for a similar style song called 'Desi girl' from a movie called 'Dostana'. This one is quite comparable but is slightly more funky and abit more glamorous rather than the first one which was more of a party style and club style. This is the new song!!

His appearance might change depending on what kind of music he has made or is featuring. *How do propose to get the press involved-
*Practical issues- His target audience will include a variety of different ages. Starting from young teenagers to middle aged adults around 30. This is because his music is quite up-beat, so it wil be something teenagers will like and adults will also enjoy. They will consist of a variety of different topics, some which will ineterest teenagers more and others which adults will prefer. The merchandising will be done by a proffesional merchandiser. This will make the artist and his website look alot more professional. This will make the public alknowelegde the new, smart artist and his status. His style of CD digipack will consist of a four flaps coming out from either side giving the consumer relevant information about the new artist on the block 'Dj Kapz'. Chosen video!
We have changed our mind about what song we are going to do. We think that doing the other song might be slightly hard as we want alot of people to be in the video to create a similar atmospehere. With this new song we have chosen, it tells more of a story rather than just going on about a girl and about her beauty so through this we can base the video on acting and telling out a story. heres the video and its called 'Desi Girl' which means 'indian girl'.

Textual analysis of a music video
We are going to be focusing on 'Madhuri Dixit', the main dancer in the film 'Aaja Nachle'. We are going to talk about how her image is created and sustained in the music video.
Throughout the music video we can see perfectly that 'Madhuri Dixit' is the main dancer. Madhuri Dixit is shown alone at the start of the video. As she dances away we can hear the audience cheering for her. From this we can see that she is the main focus.
From the silhouette we start to see parts of her body such as her feet, eyes and arm/leg movements. This is effective towards the viewers as they can see every detail of her body. Also jingle bells are used to get the viewers attention. I find that this is quite successful in the video as the bells sound as beautiful as they jingle with the beat of her moves. This shows us were all the focus should be.
We then see Madhuri Dixit from a long shot in the centre of the dance floor. Then gradually is joined by other dancers. However, Madhuri Dixit is a little different from the others, as she remains in the centre and is the only one with her hair down loose and wearing different colored clothes Whereas the other dancers are wearing grey. Also we can see that Madhuri Dixit is the only dancer who is lip syncing. From this we know that she is the main dancer/singer.
Madhuri Dixit is shown in more detail and in-focus than the other dancers. The viewers can see this as Madhuri Dixit's beauty catches your eyes. This is perfectly clear to the viewer that her image is more attractive than other dancers by purpose. We can see this as when they are all dancing Madhuri Dixit's hair is blowing back.
The camera follows Madhuri Dixit as she dances around the dance floor. She is also slightly forward compared to the others.
Overall the image of her is being modest, classic and very traditional.

Textual analysis- Dj H, Dj Rags ft Miss Pooja and Nirmal Sidhu - Char Panj
This video clip is of a bhangra song which has a very bright and playful video to it. As you can see the video consists of a variety of bright and cheerful colours from backdrops to costumes, and even instruments. The video is made up off models, male and female traditional bhangra dancers which are originated from the Punjab, Dhol players (Indian drums), the singers and the musicians/Dj.
The video has about nine different shots with different coloured backdrops which are accompanied by the singers and the dancers also dressed in different colours. What makes the video different to others is that it’s not edited in a common way. From the beginning to the end, every time a different clip is shown, it looks like splats of paint are being thrown over each other creating layers. And in each of these layers a different coloured clip is shown, so that’s how the next clip is introduced.
I like the costumes that the female dancers are wearing in the video. They are traditional Punjabi outfits which are easy to move and dance around in. Bright colours like cerise, red, yellow and turquoise is to be seen in this video. Funky colours are often associated with bhangra/Indian music. The men are wearing similar outfits too which are also traditional costumes and for easy movement.
The dancers make the video more exciting to watch as they come out with different moves and they are also one of the main parts in the video along with the singers.
The models are wearing Indian clothes too. Some are wearing traditional styles and other are wearing more sleek and fashionable styles such as long fitted skirts with embroided Indian tops. They are mainly posing and have been brought in to give the video another type of attraction.
The two Djs in the video are quite casual dressed and are just going along with the other dancers and singers. The female singer changes her costumes several times throughout the videos while the male singer is in one outfit throughout. She also acts out some of the song through her dancing which makes her more the main person.
The two Dhol players are very casual dressed in jeans and t-shirts and are shown quite a few times playing the dhol and enjoying the song.
In this video there are not many different type of shots. Everything has been filmed from the front into a wide shot. This fits all the backdrops, and people in to one shot. It’s pretty simple and the style and effects have been given more attention. The lighting is very high but by using bright colours in the backgrounds and costumes not much light is needed to lighten up the video.
Overall it’s a interesting simple video, and its quite common because its not set outside or in a club or a party or on stage its been shot on a set where they have changed only backgrounds. This means that the focus has to be good and acting, dance moves and miming needs to be done very accurately. Its one of my favourite videos because its unusual, different and very attractive.
Video
This is the video we have chosen to go for. Its a bollywood song. Its held in a club and been shot as a party which is being lead on by a girl and a boy who are the main peple in the video. these are the two dancers and actors from the movie this song is from which is 'Jab We Met'. The song is quite fast and has some sort of consistency that goes through the whole song. The beat stays the same all the way through and i think this is what keeps the song going. and anohter thing that stays the same throughout the whole video is the costumes. They dont change there costumes and this is anther thing that keeps the flow of the song going while you watch it. The dance routines all very simliar and all the dancers around are doing the same. There are part sin there which are shot with reflections and mirrors on the sides but this is very rare.

Breif!
This is my A2 media blog where I am going to upload videos, pictures and research about all the music and music videos I like of my choice! All this will go towards my own music video which I am going to create this coming year. I am also going to create a glogster where I will be uploading videos of my choice. I will design this glogster in a way where it will relate to the kind of music I like and listen to the most! All these videos will have some kind of analysis to them, which will show my opinions and thoughts about them. I am looking forward to starting this project and hope it goes all well!
